Canberra Glassworks Artist Residency

This artwork was created during a five week artist residency at Canberra Glassworks, Canberra ACT in November/December 2012.

Canberra Glassworks is an amazing facility and is Australia’s only cultural centre that is wholly dedicated to contemporary glass art.  At its core it is a working glassworks that provides access to glassmaking facilities for glass artists. As an artist in residence I had full access to the hot shop, kiln area, cold working studio and all cold working equipment. I used the opportunity of having all the glass specific facilities under one roof to make new work that crossed over and combined the processes. I made cylinders in the hot glass studio that I then cut and made into a flat sheet in the kiln, then I cold worked the sheet and then heated back up in a kiln to “roll it up” in the hot shop again and create new forms.  It was very exciting to make these new forms. The forms are different from traditional blown glass forms, they resemble rolled up paper.  I also spent my time exploring and experimenting with enamels, more kiln forming, and lots of cold working.
